The Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier actively seeks women who have an interest in voluntarism, a commitment to community service, and an interest in developing their potential. There are many benefits to membership in the Junior League. The League offers its members professional training, flexible volunteer placements, and an opportunity to make not only professional connections but lifelong friends as well. The Junior League welcomes all women who value our Mission. We are committed to inclusive environments of diverse individuals, organizations, and communities.
Informational meetings are held in the spring and summer at the Junior League office located at 2601 Line Avenue in Shreveport. These brief orientations explain all the requirements for Provisional membership in the League. For more information, email Melissa Airhart, 2016-2017 Admissions/Provisional Chairman, at email@example.com, or contact the Junior League office at (318) 221-6144.
Membership in the JLSB is open to women age 24 and older who express an interest in voluntarism. There are three membership statuses: Provisional, Active, and Sustainer. During your first year in the Junior League, you are a Provisional member. Provisionals are required to meet regularly for a course that helps them learn how the JLSB operates, its history, and the responsibilities of membership. Non-mandatory social events take place often, giving you even more opportunities to get to know your fellow Provisionals!
Provisional Member Requirements
Provisional members must attend Provisional course meetings, General Membership meetings, and a Fall Retreat, and they must work two (2) fundraising shifts. Provisionals also volunteer in the Shreveport-Bossier community via a “mini-placement” for approximately 15 hours throughout the year.
Provisional members’ financial obligations are:
- A one-time provisional course fee of $120 (includes yearbook picture and a Junior League red apron)
- Cookbook sales of $100
- Annual membership dues of $120
Active Member Requirements
Active members agree to engage in community service in connection with programs chosen by the League. Actives complete a “placement” each year, selecting a volunteer opportunity to serve the Shreveport-Bossier community or choosing to serve within the JLSB administration. Details about our current community placements can be found here. Members dedicate a minimum of 40 hours over the course of the year to volunteering in their chosen activity. Active members must also attend five (5) General Membership meetings and complete two (2) fundraising shifts. After meeting certain membership requirements detailed in the JLSB bylaws, members may choose to become “sustaining” members, that is, take a supportive but less active role in the League. Sustainers may choose to return to Active status at any time.
Active members’ financial obligations are:
- Annual membership dues of $120
- Financial obligation of $100 in JLSB Spring Market general admission tickets, Market Patron Package, cookbooks, Kitchen Tour admission tickets, a general donation to the JLSB, or some combination of the foregoing
Sustaining Member Requirements
Sustainers pay annual dues of $75 to $95 and are welcome to attend all General Membership meetings, training, and fundraising shifts as they wish. They serve as mentors to the Provisional and Active members and are a valuable source of support and inspiration to the League. Many of our Sustainers go on to serve as leaders in the community and in other charitable organizations in Shreveport-Bossier.
