History: 1951
1951 – DEAF-ORAL PROJECT – Discovering a paucity of training
for hearing impaired children, the Junior League established a Deaf-Oral Clinic at the Line Avenue School and West Shreveport Elementary. League members worked with the children in the clinic, assisting them with class activities and basic lip reading. In 1955, the League turned this project over to the Caddo Parish School Board, although League members still served as volunteers, assisting the trained therapists with the children.
