Prejudice and its shadows come in all shapes, sizes, religions, ethnicities, places-of-origin, races and genders. This will be the primary message that the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier, Inc. will present to the second annual River Cities Youth Summit participants. Junior high school students, as well as their teachers and counselors participate in this FUN one-day seminar and are trained to return to their schools and share what they have learned with their peers. Kids will learn that their stereotypes of people different from themselves, whether it is because of a physical disability, economic status, gender or nationality, can be hurtful and destructive to their peers, with ramifications extending far beyond the school door. They will be challenged by a group of well-trained facilitators to come up with ways to eradicate prejudice and the resulting fall-out and to bring those methods back to their respective schools.
