April 26, 2013: The Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier has named Betty Henderson as its2012-2013 Sustainer of the Year. Thisaward is given to sustaining members who continue to embody the principles of the Junior League after they leave active membership. Betty was an active member of the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier for 17 years, serving her final active year as President. Betty has served on the Red River Revel board and volunteered at the festival for over 20 years. She is an enthusiastic supporter of education, presiding as President of the PTA four times and volunteers as an adult literacy tutor and Sunday school teacher. Her board involvement includes the YMCA, Boy Scouts of America, American Red Cross, Volunteers of America, Volunteers for Youth Justice, Rutherford
House, Robinson Film Center, Holiday-In-Dixie, and many more.
Betty has remained active with the Junior League, serving on the Sustainer Advisory Board, Headquarters Search Committee, and Headquarters Campaign Committee. She chaired the 75th Anniversary Committee, resulting in the League donating $75,000 to Sherriff’s Safety Town and forming a partnership between the two organizations for the Junior League’s community project, Super Safety Saturday.
