THE JUNIOR LEAGUE OF SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER ANNOUNCES 2013-2014 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

May 2014: The Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier (JLSB) announced Madison Morris and Shelby Paine as recipients of $1,000 scholarships through its Scholarship Program.

The JLSB’s Scholarship Program recognizes graduating female seniors in Caddo and Bossier Parishes who are dedicated volunteers, good students, and community leaders. Because of the significant number of applications submitted this year, the JLSB created a special Scholarship Committee to determine the recipients. The committee reviewed every application and recommended the top applicants to the Board of Directors for final selection. Both young women received $1,000 scholarships from the JLSB.

Madison Morris graduated from Airline High School and plans to attend Northwestern State University in Shreveport to pursue a degree in nursing. She has over 500 hours of community service. Morris volunteers with many different organizations, but she considers her primary contribution to be with The HUB, an urban ministry in downtown Shreveport that works with individuals in homelessness and poverty. She has also created a campaign to rescue, restore, and empower women in the sex trade industry in Malaysia and raised $5,000 to send a woman to college.

Shelby Paine graduated from Captain Shreve High School and plans to attend Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Over the past four years, she contributed more than 550 hours of community service for different service organizations, including Community Renewal, the American Heart Association, Providence House, and The HUB. Paine is one of five students serving on the Governor’s Louisiana Tuition Task Force and is the Alternate Student Representative to the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. She is also a member of the Governor’s Youth Advisory Council, Louisiana’s Science Youth Leadership Team, and the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission Youth Council.

The League congratulates these young women and wishes them continued success in their future endeavors!
